For more than 20 years, Penny has focused her law practice on employment defense and business immigration. In that practice, she provides employers with practical and effective counsel on all day-to-day employment issues, including compliance with major federal laws (FMLA, ADA, Title VII, ADEA), employee discipline and discharge, discrimination charges, wage and hour issues, union relations, OSHA and OFCCP compliance, and immigration rules. Penny also regularly prepares employment agreements, separation agreements, and all other forms of business contracts. In her immigration and employment practice, Penny has represented clients before the U.S. Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, OSHA, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Board of Alien Labor Certification Appeals, Illinois Department of Labor, Illinois Department of Human Rights, Illinois Human Rights Commission, and Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Penny is a Graduate of Duke University and of IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. She lives in Rockford, and currently serves as a board member of the Rockford Area Economic Development Council, Stateline World Trade Association, and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center Foundation Council. She is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), and the Winnebago County Bar Association (WCBA).

Brett A. Strand, J.D.
Brett has practiced immigration and employment law since October 2010. He helps employers find solutions to difficult problems and strategize for business success. In his immigration practice, Brett has a unique depth of experience both in drafting complex petitions for non-immigrant and immigrant visa classifications and in ensuring clients’ compliance with federal immigration law. His employment practice similarly is based on collaboration with employers and HR professionals. He helps employers manage situations involving employee discipline, discrimination laws, wage and pay requirements, medical leave, and labor relations. Brett also helps individuals and families with all types of immigration cases.
Brett is a lifelong resident of Rockford. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Russian from Illinois Wesleyan University, and earned his law degree from Notre Dame Law School before returning to his hometown. When not working, he serves on the Advisory Council for the Rock River Valley YMCA's Northeast Branch, volunteers with the Boone County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, and can be found on many Saturday mornings unloading cars at Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful's weekly Recycling Center. Brett is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Winnebago County Bar Association (WCBA).

Nichole has worked in the legal field and has been a Certified Paralegal since 2003. She provides critical support in all immigration and other legal matters handled by the Firm.
